May 4 to 10 is Emergency Preparedness Week in Canada, and it is very important to have a plan in place.
Emergencies or disasters can happen at any time, and when they do, you may be on your own for up to 72 hours.
Emergency preparedness starts at home. You can greatly reduce the effects of a disaster or emergency on your family by:
- Knowing the risks in your region (fire, flood, etc)
- Making a family emergency plan and practicing it
- Preparing an emergency kit for your home/vehicle
